FAQs
About the work
Q: What are these made of? A: PLA, a plant-based bioplastic that prints clean, holds fine detail, and is more environmentally friendly than petroleum-based plastics. Most pieces come in a matte finish unless the listing says otherwise.
Q: How is it made? A: Every piece starts as a 3D model designed in CAD. For topographic work, that model is built from real elevation data. The file gets sliced, printed layer by layer on my 3D printer, cleaned up, inspected, and packed. I run, monitor, and finish every print myself.
Q: Why is it called 2nd Draft Co? A: First drafts are where you figure out what you're making. Second drafts are where you actually make it. Everything I sell here has been through both. The name is the bar.
Ordering and timing
Q: How long until my order ships? A: Most pieces are made to order. Production takes 1 to 2 weeks, then USPS Priority delivery is usually 3 to 7 business days. If your timeline is tight, email me before ordering and I'll tell you what's realistic.
Q: Can I rush an order? A: Sometimes. Contact me through this page with your deadline before placing the order. I'll tell you yes or no honestly.
Q: Can I cancel or change my order? A: Cancellations are free within 24 hours of purchase, before work begins. After that, contact me and I'll do what I can.
Q: Do you take custom orders? A: Yes. If you want a specific region, size, color combination, or something outside the listed products, contact me here with what you have in mind. You'll get a quote and timeline back.
Q: How much do custom pieces cost? A: It depends on size, complexity, and print time. As a baseline, custom work usually runs 20 to 50% more than a comparable shelf piece, since the design time is real and the result is one of one.
Shipping
Q: Where do you ship? A: United States only for now. International is on the roadmap but not live yet. If you're outside the US and really want a piece, email me and I'll see what's possible.
Q: How much is shipping? A: Calculated at checkout based on size, weight, and destination. USPS Priority with tracking on every order.
Q: What if my order arrives damaged or doesn't arrive? A: Email me within 7 days of expected delivery with your order number and photos if applicable. I'll replace it or refund you.
Q: Do you offer local pickup? A: Not currently. If you're in the Kitsap area and want to coordinate, email me and we'll figure it out.
Care and display
Q: How do I clean it? A: A soft, dry cloth or a soft brush for dust. For anything stickier, a slightly damp cloth is fine. Skip solvents, alcohol, and abrasive cleaners. Those will damage the finish.
Q: Can I display it outside? A: No. PLA softens in direct heat and breaks down faster under UV exposure. Keep pieces indoors, away from windows with hours of direct sun, and out of hot cars or garages.
Q: How durable is it? A: PLA is rigid and dimensionally stable indoors. It won't chip or crack under normal display use, but it isn't designed to be a coaster, a cutting surface, or anything functional. Treat it like a framed print or a small sculpture.
Q: Can I hang it on a wall? A: Depends on the piece. Some are designed to lay flat, some can be wall-mounted with the right hardware. Check the listing for that piece, or email if you want to confirm before buying.
